Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of our youngest learners, ages 3-5. Students enrolled in the SJOA preschool participate in activities using a play-based approach to learning. This means that we believe that children learn best through child-initiated and teacher-supported activities. You can expect that your child will be in an environment that is supportive, encouraging, and developmentally appropriate. As a Catholic school, you can also expect that our values are deeply rooted in our faith. Religion is woven into what we teach throughout the day.
Preschool will directly follow the K-8 school calendar. Should K-8 early release, have weather delays, breaks, or additional closures the preschool shall align with K-8. Preschool also aligns with K-8 regarding regular school day hours. Preschool drop-off is 7:30, with classes starting at 7:50 AM and going until 3:00 PM.

Language Arts

Language Arts
- Explains what a story is about, what comes next, and details about characters
- Knows concepts of print-reading left to right, holds a book correctly
- Knows letters and sounds and recognizes common sight words
- Recognizes rhymes in familiar songs, poems, and stories
- Shares writing samples and pictures with others
- Recites home telephone number and address
- Follows two-part spoken directions
- Reads their first and last names.
